Description

Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The scheduled area contains a small enclosed hut group which probably had two round huts and a yard, but was extensively rebuilt, probably in the Medieval period, so that the remains now consist of four rectangular buildings. To the W is a sub-rectangular enclosure which could belong to either period, and outside this, on the N, is another hut circle. The site is on a low outcrop on the SW side of a shallow valley, now rather boggy in several places but with a good stream. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of multi-period settlement and land use. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
