Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument comprises two hut circles, the foundations of round houses, situated on the southern facing slope of Moel Hebog. The huts, which are both defined by well preserved stone walls surviving up to 0.6m in height, are of similar size and appearance and have been positioned so that they face each each other across a small yard defined by walling. The huts were probably constructed during the Iron Age period and the close proximity and physical connections between the two would suggest that they were in contemporary use. They may have originally formed part of a much larger settlement.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric domestic life and social organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of structural evidence and associated archaeological features and deposits, including internal and external floor levels. Added archaeological interest is given by the distinctive paired layout.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
