It stands on a flat saddle of high land on the northern slopes of the Black Mountain and consists of a sub-circular setting of small upright and recumbent stones c 20 metres in diameter. There is a worn recumbent stone between the two largest uprights (one up to 0.8 metres high and 1.0 metre wide) in the south east corner, and the remaining twelve stones are at, or just above, the surface of blanket peat which covers the area.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices.
