Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
A polygonal enclosed homestead with the remains of hut circles in some of the angles, sited on a level shelf in a west-facing slope, and a burnt mound close to a stream nearby. See individual descriptions.
ME118A
The enclosed homestead is on a small level area in a moderately steep west-facing slope, just above the track to the farm and close to the road and to a substantial stream. The layout remains clear but the site is not particularly well preserved, the walls being low grassy banks with some visible stone.
ME118B
The mound is crescent-shaped with a dip right across the middle which almost divides it in two.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
