History
Old bridge destroyed by floods in 1796; John Nash designed a new one, opened in 1800, but this too was destroyed by floods in 1886; replaced in 1888 by the existing structure designed by Sir James Szlumper and built by David Lloyd of Aberystwyth.
Exterior
Spanning the River Rheidol at the S end of the town.
Triple broad segmental arched bridge, bull-nosed rubble with voussoirs and band course; pilasters over round ended cutwaters. Northern arch also spans the embankment. Pilasters topped by cast iron lampstandards (cast by Williams and White Foundry, Aberystwyth) of dragons flanking fluted stem; modern lights. Rubble parapet wall extends to south to level of No 1 Penparcau Road.
