Situated on corner of Water Street, opposite NE entrance to Market Square.

House and shop, C17 origins, said to have been the farmhouse of Tir y pentre lands, known as Pentre, and later an inn known as The Oak. By 1810 there was an inn here known as Neuaddfach, also Little Hall, owned by the Saunders-Davies family who may have aquired it with the remnant of the Neuadd Newydd estate in 1782. In 1841 listed as the Little Hall and the Oak, but from 1853 as just the Oak inn. Tenanted from 1810 by William Goulstone chemist and wine and spirit merchant, and by his son James from 1845 to 1875. It ceased being a tavern before 1875. The house was divided into several tenancies, the front part in 2, a warehouse at the back and the Water Street wing let as 2. William Saunders the printer-poet occupied one of the rear wing houses 1845-9. By 1892 called Pentre House, with warehouse behind, owned by Daniel Williams, wines and spirits merchant, who bought the property in 1884.  

Corner house of 2 storeys, 3 bays to front, and 3 to Water Street. Steep-pitched slate roof, hipped on the corner, with stone and brick external chimney to Water Street E end. Deep eaves. Painted stucco with painted stone plinth. Front has 3 mid C20 metal casement windows over projecting timber pair of shopfronts, C19 in origin, altered in C20 with almost flat roof. Right shopfront has recessed central doors and plate glass windows in mid C20 bronzed metal frames. Square chamfered C19 pier to right. To left is small C19 shopwindow canted in to left of recess with 2 doors, recess carried on chamfered timber pier. Return to Water Street has 3 irregular window bays offset to right. First floor has metal window to left, similar to those on front, and two 12-pane hornless sashes to right grouped above a C20 window and a door. Larger C20 window in bronzed metal frame to ground floor left (left of window above).  

Ground floor opened up as shop, with several large oak beams, squared, running both from front to back and side to side. Upper floors and roof not available for inspection.  

Included as one of the older houses of the town, of group value with other listed buildings in the centre of Llandovery.
