History
Pedestrian subway under Chepstow to Swansea railway, engineered by Brunel and opened 18 June 1850.
Exterior
Splayed entrance to Commercial Street. Ramped retaining walls, squared coursed stonework, stone caps. Segmental arch to subway, stone voussoirs, stressed keystone. Vermiculated band of stone blocks, parapet over, stressed quoins, stone caps. Whitewashed vaulted passageway. Similar entrance to Maes-yr-Haf Road with taller parapet, later tile capping. No retaining walls.
