Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History
Built ca 1870 (shown on 1st edition OS map) as an industrial farm for the Vivod estate; contemporary with the remodelling and enlargement of the main house. Together with various linked ranges they form a U-plan farmyard. Addition to NE end probably ca 1897 (see date on range opposite).

Exterior
2-storey rubble range with yellow brick dressings to the arches; red brick dressings to later alterations. Slate roof with 4 conical ventilators, skylights and gable parapet to left. 3, tall semicurcular arched cart openings to centre, that to the right has been infilled with small pane glazing over a boarded door beside 2-light casement window. Above each arch is a narrow winodw with central metal bar. To right of the arches are two boarded doors, the right hand of which is a latter insertion. To left is a hopper window high up; 'office' window below with small opening. Doorway with tall overlight near the corner with the dairy and food-store range. Low rear elevations due to rise in ground level. At the right hand end is narrower and lower red brick extension with slate clock face to the gable end; cambered openings.

Interior

Reason for designation
The farmyard ranges are included for their group value and importance to the Vivod estate and as a good example of an industrial farmstead.
