l880 Masonic Hall, by Henry Lovegrove of London.
Masonic Hall was first proposed using plans by H Edwards on site by Lord Nelson Hotel, c l874. This building was opened in l882, enlarged in l906 by J B Gaskell of Milford and altered in l925 by J H Morgan of Carmarthen.
Exterior
Stucco with slate roof and Italianate classical S end facade, two-storey with recessed section to left. Facade is chapel type, three-bay with first floor pilasters, entablature, parapet and raised pediment over centre on rudimentary paired pilasters. First floor has three arched glazing-bar sashes with moulded arched heads, impost band and sill band. Broad band over ground floor which is channel rusticated with plain sash each side of arched centre door way with moulded arch and pilaster jambs.
Recessed section to left has one-window range with arched first floor window and altered ground floor entry. Plain dry-dashed E side wall to Mansfield Street.
Interior
Interior not inspected but photographs show the temple to have rich classical detailing to coffered ceiling, dado panelling, twin ceremonial pillars etc.
