Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History

Exterior
Mid C19 lofted outbuilding with attached horse-engine shed. Rubble stone with grouted slate, half-hipped roof to main range and slate roof to N side engine-house. Main range has W end stone outside stairs to loft door and raised door to ground floor right. Cut stone cornerstones. N side has centre door with rough stone voussoirs and 6-pane loft window under eaves to right. To left, the engine house is rubble stone with 3-sided canted N end, windowless; W side was formerly of two open bays, one now with double doors, the other infilled with window. E side is infilled and there is a lean-to against wall of main building beyond. Main building has E end loft window.

Interior
Collar-truss roof and partial loft floor in SW angle of main building. One iron sheet with belt-wheels, but otherwise nothing survives of horse-engine.

Reason for designation
Included for fine example of horse-engine house, relatively rare in SW Wales. Probably not marked on 1841 Tithe Map, when farm was owned by Henry Jenkins and occupied by John Rees.
