Lies above the north bank of the River Wye 800 metres north of village of Erwood.
History
Largely rebuilt c.1895 but incorporating the body of C16/C17 stone-built hall house. Home of Williams-Vaughan family who returned two High Sheriffs of Radnorshire in C19. Nancy, wife of Howell Harris, founder of Trevecca College was born at The Skreen.
Exterior
Two storeys, L-plan with further service ranges to the west. Two-storey porch to east of south wing which is the earlier portion. Coursed rubble blocks with quoins, slate roofs, three eaves dormers to east range. Regular window arrangement, all large C19 ovolo mullion windows with hoodmoulds. In the gable end of the south wing earlier blocked windows with timber lintels can be seen. Quoined chimney stacks, two with diagonally set paired flues.
Interior
Good quality C19 features including coffered and richly moulded plaster ceiling to library, panelled doors and shutters and Jacobean style staircase. Cellar beneath south wing possibly original.
Reason for designation
Included as a well-designed late C19 small country house of special architectural interest and with historic associations.
