Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

Farmhouse of 1774. Plaque above front door "This house was erected by John Nicholson in the year 1774" 2-storey rubble whitewashed house. Steeply pitched slate roof. Rendered gable chimney stacks, thicker to left. Rendered plinth. Offset regular 3-window facade. Upper windows are Victorian 3 over 2 pane sashes, vertical glazing bars only; timber lintels. Ground floor windows with concrete lintels and Victorian 6-pane sashes, vertical glazing bars only. Central doorway with raised cemented lugged architrave and keystone. Modern half-glazed door. Rendered left hand return elevation with ground floor 6-paned steel casement. 1930s brick rear lean to with small projecting stack.

Interior
Original oak bressumer to wide fireplace in ground floor left room with blocked bread oven. Adzed beams to ground floor.

Reason for designation
Good example of a late Georgian farmhouse and may be compared to Rhyd ar Wen 1 km NE, dated 1777. Danycapel, however is less old-fashioned in not having a projecting big chimney.
