History
The gardens were laid out in the reign of William and Mary, probably by Humphrey Edwin, who was Lord Mayor of London in 1697. Over three hundred yews were planted to a design described by John Tomlinson in 1629 "Paradisi de Sole, Paradisus Terrastrius"
Exterior
Narrow flight of ten plain limestone steps, leading up to a broader, shallower flight of 13 steps with coping, which in turn leads into the formal flat grass terrace.
Partially restored at the time of inspection. (June 1995)
Reason for designation
Listed as an integral part of this rare and exceptionally interesting late C17 planned garden associated with the grade I Llanmihangel Place.
