Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History

Exterior
Pair of shops. No 45 largely refronted c1870; no 46 probably an early C19 frontage, though the property itself has earlier origins. Brick with slate roof. 3 storeys; No 45 a 3 window range, 2-window range to No 46. Inserted shop fronts, of late C19-early C20 types with moulded brackets with cable moulding and foliate swags to either side of fascias; windows of No 46 divided by a mid-rail. Upper windows are 4-pane sashes with flat arched heads; continuous sill band to upper storey of No 46. Included for group value, the buildings retain much of their late C19 character, including a shop front of some quality.
