Icehouse to the NW of the Kitchen Garden at Kinmel
Location
The icehouse stands about 70m NW of the kitchen garden, backing into a slight hill in the park, planted with evergreens.
History
The icehouse is recorded as having been built c1862-4.
Exterior
Limestone rubble built facade with an opening formed with a re-used ovolo-moulded beam. The rest of the structure is buried in the hillock.
Interior
The approach passage is approximately 6m long, leading to the domed icehouse, approximately 3m in diameter, domed by diminishing brick courses. The lower part of the ice chamber has been filled up.
Reason for designation
Included as a good example of an icehouse and as a surviving feature in the landscaped park at Kinmel.
