Nearly opposite Ty Mawr on the N side of the main village throughfare.
History
One of a series of cast-iron mileposts erected 1830s for the Bridgend Turnpike Trust. The road was first turnpiked in 1764.
Exterior
Cast-iron milepost with a mixture of Gothic and Classical detail, pointed arches to splayed sides with relief inscripions: 'To Bridgend 2' (left) and 'To Pyle 4' (right); semicircular arched head with keystone inscribed 'Bridgend District', moulded rectangular panel at base inscribed 'Laleston Parish', and round-arched panel above inscribed 'London 179'.
Reason for designation
Included as good example of an elaborately detailed cast-iron milepost.
