Location
Situated in overgrown scrub some 700m NNE of Mynyddygarreg School, reached by lane from school, then footpath. Situated to E of footpath, kiln is in earth-banked small indent, facing S. Second kiln is some 100m SSE in similar indent facing W.
History
Mid C19 lime-kiln, part of the limestone industry of Mynyddygarreg. Marked on 1880 O.S. map.
Exterior
One of two surviving limekilns built into banks with crucibles accessible from paths above. Curved front in rubble stone with big semi-circular arch to kiln-eye. Stone voussoirs. Kiln-eye is some 3m high, curving in and down to rear furnace. Projecting shelf just above arch.
Reason for designation
One of two intact survivors of four marked on 1880 O.S. map. Important relics of the Mynyddygarreg limestone industry.
