History
Erected c1881 with Gliffaes Lodge by the Reverend W. West at the entrance to the new house at Gliffaes.
Exterior
Gateway with square piers of ashlar red sandstone, with swept pyramidal caps and orb finials. Double cast iron gates have scrolled lower, upper and lock rails, and elaborately scrolled overthrow. Piers are flanked by dwarf stone walls with flat brick coping which are swept up to piers and crowned by brick scrolls.
Reason for designation
Well-detailed gateway which, with adjacent Gliffaes Lodge, is integral to the setting of Gliffaes, a large late C19 Italianate mansion.
