History
Earliest inscription, in Welsh, is on uphill side to Ann Nicholas of Penllwyn Sarff (d 1850); later inscription on chapel-facing side. Penllwyn Sarff, also known as Sarph, is another name for Penllwyn Fawr, the large C16 manor house on the other side of the Sirhowy Valley.
Exterior
Plain chest tomb of ashlar; narrow plinth, slab with raised centre, inscriptions within an oval, plain moulded arches at corners.
Reason for designation
Listed as one of a number of early - mid C19 chest tombs for group value with Chapel, Wall, School and other monuments.
