Garden features on the entrance axis of the mansion, on the rising ground to the south.
History
Probably built at the end of the time of construction of the mansion, c1835. Contemporary drawings indicate terracing of the lawn at an early date.
Exterior
A garden seat at the head of a small slope in the lawn to the south of Golden Grove, with flights of stairs. There are three flights, corresponding to the terracing in the lawn. Each flight is of six steps, about 6m in width, between rounded kerbs.
At the top, on the same axis, is a half-round garden seat in limestone, with a narrower flight of six steps each side giving access to the garden beyond. Chamfered-edged seat on four brackets.
Reason for designation
A feature of the landscaping of the immediate environs of Golden Grove, contemporary with the house.
