The milespost stands in the S verge of the main road, on the hilltop nearly opposite Tan-y-graig.
History
The milepost was probably erected in the first decades of the C19, on the main road from Machynlleth to Twywn and the coast.
Exterior
A cast iron distance marker of triangular form, open at the back, the sides sloping back at the top to a gabled top plate with raised lettering in a bold Roman typeface set in a curve, reading ABERDOVEY 5. On the left, similar raised lettering reading TOWYN, also set in a curve and within the arc, 9, and on the right, MACHYNLLETH / 5.
Reason for designation
Included as a particularly elegantly lettered mile marker with lettering typical of the early C19.
