Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History
Rectory of 1817, built to plans by Walter Gwatkin of Chepstow. The plans were for a building to cost £550, of the form of the present except for single storey one-window rooms each end, with arched windows, containing dairy and brewhouse. The plans show a parlour each side of the entrance hall and rear stair with cellar and pantry to left, kitchen to right. Additional 2-storey range to left added in 1930s.

Exterior
House, whitewashed render with slate roof and brick end stacks. Two-storey, three-window front of 12-pane hornless sashes with centre door. Stone sills. Half-glazed door with arched radiating-bar fanlight in painted timber doorcase of fluted pilasters with panelled heads and open pediment. C20 addition on left end, two-storey with metal window above, small sash below. C20 lean-to on right end. Rear has varied fenestration, centre 12-pane stairlight.

Interior
Central hall to stick baluster stairs. Two main front rooms with high ceilings and simple cornices. Panelled shutters. Lower ceilings to rear rooms.

Reason for designation
Included as a well-proportioned late Georgian rectory, retaining original detail including the doorcase.
