History
The pedestal has plaques attached to the sides recording those who served in the 1914-18 war and the dead of that and the 1939-45 war.  

Exterior
A tall square pedestal with enriched finial, on a stepped square plinth. Above are wreaths in relief and a deep cornice with a frieze of flowers. Above are niches with one order of shafts with moulded capitals and trefoiled arches with ogee gables. In the canopies are sculpted figures of soldier, sailor and airman, while the 4th side is a robed woman holding a long scroll, representing a roll call of the dead. Above the niches the pedestal tapers and is crowned by a Celtic cross.
