Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History
A rectangular garden, originally probably a formal parterre, which probably dates from soon after the building of Moynes Court in 1610-12. Probably built by Bishop Godwin of Llandaff when he moved to Moynes Court from his nearby residence of Mathern Palace. It now belongs to the smaller section of Moynes Court (No 2).

Exterior
Garden walls in a square to the southeast of Moynes Court and now a part of No 2. Rubble stone walls about 2m in height with a half round coping.

Interior
The internal face of the walls is as the outside. The garden contains a possibly C18 stone sundial.

Reason for designation
Included for group value with Moynes Court and as a part of the historic ensemble.
