Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

Period

History
C18 with later alterations. Although the building was clearly originally domestic, its precise purpose is unclear: it may have been a secondary dwelling or possibly accommodation of farm servants.

Exterior
Two-storey house with single storey wing to L (N) and single-pitched addition at N end. Built of local rubble masonry; roof of small, old slates, stone copings and gable stacks. The R (S) stack is a tall rectangular stack with capping, the L (N) stack a shorter, squarer stack projecting from the N gable, with capping and raised by brick. The entrance elevation faces the yard and farm buildings to the W, the doorway under a gabled porch to the L (N). There is a ground floor window, a horizontally sliding sash, to the R (S) and a first floor window, with margin panes, set directly under the eaves; a similarly detailed first floor window to the rear. To the L (N) is a single storey gabled wing, probably a boiling house; with external access via a door to the rear. A single pitched addition built against the L (N) end; a single doorway to the front.

Interior
The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.

Reason for designation
Included as an integral part of the farm complex at Bodlasan Fawr, which retains a strong vernacular character.
