Built c1870 by R J Ll Price, Esq., of Rhiwlas Hall to provide accommodation for senior estate workers and their families. The bricks used in the construction were possibly burned on the estate.

Reason for designation
Listed as part of a mid-Victorian terrace of reflected estate cottages retaining good, unaltered external character in a prominent road-side location; a good example of later C19 estate building on this important estate.
Group Description
Garden Cottage and Bwthyn (Terrace of Two), LLandderfel
Pair of reflected one-and-a-half storey L-plan cottages forming an overall U-plan. Of orange brick construction with slate roofs; slate lintels and projecting sills. Brown brick end and (shared) central chimneys with C20 pots and flaunchings. Each unit has an off-centre entrance with boarded door and 3-pane overlight. This is flanked by 4-pane Victorian sashes to both floors, those to the first floor breaking the eaves and contained within broad gabled dormers with simple bargeboards; the central dormers are paired. The rear wing to each cottage has single 4-pane sashes to each floor; a single-storey lean-to block runs along the rear connecting the projecting wings.
