Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History
As part of the reorganisation of the garden area this archway was designed by Clough Williams-Ellis for Sir Vivyan Naylor-Leyland in 1966.

Exterior
A tall square archway building with pyramid slate roof rising to a copper-roofed cupola with a gilded ball and finial; clock with Roman numerals on the cupola. The building is rendered and colour washed and has four broad corner pilasters supporting a simple hollow cornice. It has an open lower storey with single arches to east and west. The upper storey has a venetian window to the north with an attached fire escape staircase, small oval windows to east and west, and two sash windows to south.

Interior
Interior not inspected.

Reason for designation
A picturesque element in the redesign of the garden and service areas of Nantclwyd by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis
