History
Villa said to have been built in 1860 for George Chiles, wine merchant in the High Street and mayor of Tenby in 1903. George Chiles listed as occupant in 1926, but John Hughes in 1911.
Exterior
Detached house, unpainted stucco with slate deep-eaved roof and red brick left end stack. Two storeys, basement and attic, double fronted, with 2 shallow gables over 9-pane hornless sashes. Gables have ornate fretwork bargeboards. First floor has small hornless 12-pane sash to right and large canted oriel window to left of 4-16-4-panes with moulded cornice and hipped slate roof. Ground floor has 12-pane sash to left, 16-pane sash to right, and door between, slightly left of centre in C20 pedimented surround. All windows except oriel are in raised rusticated surrounds. Door has 4 long Tudor-arched panels and traceried overlight. Basement under left half only. Vermiculated rusticated quoins, also on gable end to road, which has plain overhanging verges and window each floor set to right.
Garden wall along roadside of some 20m length and about 2m height is of rubble stone roughly capped in cement. There are 2 low blocked openings with stone voussoirs, about 1 m high, one pointed to left and one round to right. Traces of at least one arrow loop. Openings have splayed reveals on garden side. Two C19 limestone gatepiers by the house.
Reason for designation
Included as C19 villa with ornate bargeboards and for historical interest of garden wall.
