By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History
Erection date uncertain, but probably early 1920s.
Exterior
Granite obelisk on a plinth and standing on five square diminishing granite steps. The obelisk carries on the front an inscription 'IN PROUD & HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF WHITCHURCH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 SEMPER FIDELIS 1030-1945', and on the sides and rear the names of the fallen. The obelisk is surmounted by the bronze figure of an infantryman standing with reversed arms.
Reason for designation
Included as a good memorial from WWI having group value with the adjacent Whitchurch Library.
