Listed for special interest as largely unaltered example of industrial workers' housing adjacent to former quarries.  

Group Description
Nos 1 to 10 Rhiw Fach Terrace, Cwm Penmachno, Bro Machno Community Squared dark stone rubble, alternating with buff stone in quoins. Slate roofs; rectangular stone chimneys, with water tabling, each originally having 4 flues; deep stone lintels to ground floor windows and doors. Nos 1-3, and 8-10 are 2 window houses with upper windows set at eaves, and with ground floor window and door aligned below these, door to R except for No 1 where it is to L. No 1 has been extended to rear in flat slate rubble with higher eaves level and consequently higher ridge to roof; window to each floor on SW return. No 10 has basement where ground drops down to stream; door with 2 windows to R on NE return. Nos 4-7 are double fronted with 3 first floor windows, central doorway flanked by windows. Nos 4 & 5 have some decorative render around windows and doors; No 6 is rendered and painted. Nos 1-7 retain C19 sash glazing, most with marginal glazing bars intact, but Nos 8-10 have replacement glazing. At rear variety of extensions including unusual contemporary attached parallel gabled block to Nos 3 & 4. Rears largely retain small pane glazing either horned sashes or fixed panes. Houses set in forecourts with low slate rubble walls (some with iron railings); slate gate-posts. Partition walls of forecourts mainly upright slate slabs. Opposite front of houses across lane are small gardens on land sloping down to stream; walls formed from upright slate slabs.
