History
C18 in origin and formerly part of the Golden Lion Inn. Altered during Bethel Square redevelopment in 1990s.
Formerly with, on ground floor, paired sash to left-hand bay, and in right-hand bay, a 6-panelled house door with fanlight of 3 panes. The archway was formerly lower and elliptically-headed.
Exterior
Former house, now shop with accommodation above. Three storeys. Two bays. Slate roof. Elevation to Lion Street faced in cement rendering with coved eaves cornice; rusticated ground floor with moulded band above; pilaster to R. Small-pane horned sash windows. Two windows to top floor. Single window with paired sashes on first floor. Modern shop window on ground floor to L; to R, archway to Bethel Square with stepped keystone and quoins to jambs. Modern shop window to passageway.
Interior
Retains good semi-elliptical early C19 staircase.
Reason for designation
Important entry building to Bethel Square with early origins. Group Value with other listed buildings in Lion Street.
