History
Block facing Ship Street is probably late C18 or early C19 in date; rear wing to Bell lane possibly earlier.
Exterior
Shop with accommodation above. Four window block facing ship street has 3 storeys and attic and is faced in stucco. Four window bays. Hipped slate roof with deep eaves; two semi-circular dormers with small-pane top-hung casements. On second and first floors, 12-pane sash windows in openings with slightly cambered heads. Ground floor has good C19 double shop front with central entrance with four three-quarter columns and continuous entablature. Right hand return to Bell Lane is roughcast; three-light shop window on ground floor. Possibly a wing of timber-framed structure of earlier date to rear, as in No.9.
Interior
Said to retain fielded panelled doors, chimney pieces etc.
Reason for designation
A late C18/early C19 building preserving historic character, and with evidence of early origins. Group Value with adjacent listed buildings on both sides of Ship Street.
