The former Griffin Inn. Late C17 to early C18 origins with C19 external details.
Reason for designation
Well preserved pair with early origins, and good late C19 to early C20 shopfronts. Group Value with adjacent listed buildings in the Struet.
Group Description
Nos 103 & 103a The Struet.
Two storey, four-window street front; rendered; stepped quoins to ends. Slate roof; stone chimney stacks to R adjoining stack in No.102 and also to L end but rendered. On first floor, four 4-pane sash windows with continuous cornice at sill level; blank space in centre. Ground floor centre has round-headed and rusticated arch surmounted by a swan-neck-pedimented panel inscribed "The Griffin". Early C20 shop front to each side of the central arch; each with central recessed door flanked by shop windows, and set in surround with end pilasters and deep fascia board.
