Pont Clwyd

Denbighshire

Over the River Clwyd carrying a minor road south-west of Llandyrnog village to Llanynys
History
Probably C18; a bridge of very utilitarian character. It is shown and named on the 1874 map.
Unclear if there was formerly a coping; but possibly not, as other bridge parapets locally have top surface cramps in this manner.
Exterior
A single-arch segmental span of about 8m, with a carriageway about 4 m wide; axe-dressed local stonework including voussoirs, 500mm deep. Low parapet of orthostat stones each side, only about 400mm high at the crown of the bridge, with paired bronze cramps to strengthen each joint at the top. The parapets turn out slightly at each end, but without terminal piers.
Reason for designation
A good minor road bridge which has retained its character.
