Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History

Exterior
History: Almost certainly built as a toll house for the Turnpike Road to Dolgellau, c1820. Exterior: Rough random local rubble, the roof renewed with concrete tiles; ribbed brick stack to rear. 2 storeys, L- plan, with gabled wing advanced towards the road. Entrance in added porch in the angle of this wing and the range at right- angles with it. Wing has canted bay window to ground floor, and 4-centred arched head to 2-light casement above, in chamfered architrave. Similar windows in the gable end of the other range. All windows have ornamental cast-iron diamond lattice glazing. Listed as a good example of an early C19 toll house, retaining much of its original Picturesque vocabulary.
