Group Description
43 & 44 Broad Street, Newtown and Stables to rear 3 storey, 5 bay Flemish bond brick. Stock brick pilasters divide bays. Slate roof, bargeboards, boxed eaves. Freestone eaves band. Moulded caps to 3 brick mid-roof stacks. Lateral stack to rear right. 2 light casement windows under eaves, sill band. Blue brick round arches to 1st floor windows. Freestone imposts and keystones. Cambered arch to narrow centre bays. 2 light casement window with fans, sill band. C19 shopfront to ground floor left, 2 light bays flanking recessed glazed door. Rectangular fan. Blindbox and nameboard. Plain round arch to central tunnel passage, plank door. Arches as for 1st floor to right hand bays. Robust fanlight over panelled door with sidelights to left. Similar fan with 3 light window to left. Rear 3 storey outshot to No 43. Small paned sash windows generally, gauged brick voussoirs. Good contemporary stables to rear of No 43. 3 lofted units with windows flanking doors. English garden wall bond brick. Whitewashed ground floor. Gabled roof, part slate/part asbestos. Round arched windows, cambered doorheads. Later double doors cut to end wall, subsequent blocking to front right. Loading door over central stable door.
