Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

An Arts and Crafts lychgate, probably built to the design of John Douglas of Chester, the restorer of the church, but not contemporary with the restoration; constructed after 1900.

Exterior
An oak lychgate standing on a stone plinth wall. Paired main posts to front and rear. Cambered tie beams on Gothic carved brackets, the beam to the front carrying a Welsh inscription. Red tile roof slightly sprocketted with deep plain bargeboards and a cross finial. Low gates at the outer side with trefoiled open upper panels, diagonally boarded lower panels. Slate war memorials attached to the stone plinth walls at front.

Interior
Benches at sides. Slate cross set in the floor.

Reason for designation
A lychgate of superior Arts and Crafts design, listed also for group value with St Garmon's Church.
