Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History
Late C19 viaduct, formed part of the Trawsfynydd to Bala section of the Conwy valley line. The Bala to Ffestiniog section of the line was opened on November 1st 1882, passenger services withdrawn on 2nd January 1960 and freight services withdrawn on 27th January of the following year. The Great Western Railway built the line from Bala in a bid to capture a share of the lucrative Blaenau slate traffic, unfortunately it failed to do so. It did, however, get a great share of traffic in terms of troop trains to Trawsfynydd to serve the Army ranges in the mountains to the S-E of the village.

Exterior
Late C19 viaduct of local stone; comprising 10 round arches.

Interior

Reason for designation
Included as a C19 railway viaduct which forms a prominent local landmark.
