Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as a fine pair of neo-classical semi-detached houses by the leading Monmouth architect.  

Group Description
Nos. 8 and 10 Monk Street Stucco fronted and painted with hipped slate roof largely hidden from the street. Double depth plan. Two storeys and attic, five bay elevation to pair. At first floor band and four Ionic pilasters rising to cornice at second floor. Round headed doorways with 6-panel doors and fanlights. Centre window bays are all blocked, and second floor windows are smaller. Ground floor and first floor windows are in arched recesses. The ground floor windows are arched sashes with radiating heads, 6 over 6 panes with a half pane surround. Centre first floor windows are casements with 8 + 8 panes. Others are double hung sashes with 6 over 6 panes and architraves to the first floor and 3 over 3 to the second floor. Parapet, central stack on party wall. Blind return walls. Rear elevation has all 6 over 6 pane sashes, two to each house with blind central panel.
