Prominently sited within the linear group of historic buildings leading to St. James's Square on the east side of Monmouth and about 300m east of the town centre.
History
Early C19, and apparently little altered since except at the rear.

Included for its special architectural interest as an early C19 house of definite character near Monmouth town centre.
Group Description
Nos. 15 and 17 St. James' Street
Red brick, with Welsh slate roofs. Single fronted double depth houses with entrances to left. Three storeys and attic, each house with one window. Doorways with open pediments on brackets; semi-circular heads, plain fanlights and 6-panel doors, No. 15 with four glazed panels. Windows are 8 over 8 pane sashes, the second floor ones are 4 over 8. Modillion eaves cornice, roof hipped to pair, gabled dormer with 3 over 3 pane sash to each house, two tall stacks to centre and right hand walls.
Rear and side elevations are rendered and painted. Some sash windows, projecting attic oriel to No. 17. Separate roof to each house at rear.
