History
A late C16 building, probably very close to 1600 and timber-framed to rear wing which was successively rebuilt in brick and stone, the house was refronted and refeatured in c1800. Originally single depth in plan it was given a rear service wing in the C17 and then made double depth in c1800. It was divided in three probably at that time, there is nothing visible to suggest that it was done earlier. This house has been fully repaired and refurbished in 2004.

Large c1600 stone fireplace with chamfered surround in front room. On the first floor are surviving parts of a late C18 staircase. Principal rafter roof with ridgepiece all complete. Heavy queen post roof to the rear wing and probably C17 fireplace with oak lintel. Some plain c1800 joinery.
Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as a multi-period house and as a part of the important group of historic buildings in the suburb of Overmonnow.
Group Description
Nos. 18-22 (even) Drybridge Street
Rendered and painted elevations, possibly over timber-framing, with a Welsh slate roof and rendered stacks. Three-unit single depth range parallel with the street, and with later extensions to the rear. Two storeys and attics with seven windows to the whole on the first floor. The ground floor has three windows and three doors, W : D : W : D : D : W. The doors are 6-panel ones with a spiders-web fanlight to No. 18 and 3-pane overlights to the others. Tripartite sashes. First floor windows are all 6 over 6 pane sashes. Very steeply pitched roof with three gabled dormers and 2 + 2 panes casements, that to No. 18 is smaller. Three stacks, to left ridge, on front slope between Nos. 18 and 20 and now truncated on right gable.
The rear elevation shows a C17 wing on left shared by Nos 20 and 22 and a lower rear wing to No. 18 which may be C19.
