In the street leading north-east out of the town square in the centre of Monmouth.
History
A probably early C19 rebuild of a C17 house. Church Street had some widening as part of the improvements associated with Priory Street and White Swan Court in c1837, but according to the maps the south side of the street had been set back in part previous to this. It is not known whether Nos. 1 and 3 are a complete rebuild or if C17 fabric remains. Note that they are closely aligned with the early C17 Agincourt house as brought forward in the mid C19.

Included for its special architectural interest as a multi-period building and as part of the continuous run of historic buildings in Church Street.
Group Description
Nos. 1 and 3 Church Street
Render, lined out as ashlar on the front, probably over brick, Welsh slate roof behind parapet, red brick stacks. Narrow plot end on to the street, indicative of an early burgage plot, but developed as a pair. Single bay three storey frontages over shops. The first floor has a canted oriel with plate glass sashes. Plat band at second floor level. 4 over 4 pane sash above, cornice band, parapet. The roof is hipped to the front with a stack on the ridge and another larger one at the rear
