Large mid C19 hotel with good C19 character and historic interest from its association with the former markets.

Nos 36 & 37 Free Street (Markets Tavern Hotel)
Public house. Street front of three storeys, six windows. Slate hipped roof with slightly projecting eaves. Stone rubble laid in courses; stone lintels and sills to door and window openings. Four-pane horned sash windows, but on ground floor, tripartite sash at each end. Entrance to pub in 3rd bay from L has doorway with pilasters and entablature, half-glazed door with rectangular overlight. To L of this former doorway with rectangular overlight. Four-window return to R; this and rear with yellow-brick dressings
