Full Report for Listed Buildings

The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

History
One of a terrace of four houses probably mid C19, slightly later in date than Nos 1-8 adjoining. The four houses are in two mirrored pairs, stepped between. The lions head keystone is distinctive, appearing on Nos 9-12, 15-16, and on side of No 44 Bridge St.

Exterior
Terraced house, painted roughcast with slate close-eaved roof and rendered right end stack. Three storeys, one-window range with door to right (paired with door to No 9). Stucco plinth and plain raised shoulded surrounds to paired doorways and to windows of ground and first floors. Renewed horned sash windows, probably all originally small paned: 6-pane to attic, and four pane to first and ground floors. Added matching attic window to left. Deeply recessed doorway to left paired with door of No 9, with three broad cemented steps up to both doorways, one step within doorway, and lions head keystone. Recessed half-glazed 4-panel door.

Interior
Interior not inspected.

Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as part of a substantial urban terrace in late Georgian style.
