Full Report for Listed Buildings
The list description is not intended to be a complete inventory of what is listed: it is principally intended to aid identification. By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

Newport
Location
On high ground to the north west of the town at the southern end of College Road. Adjacent to Felthorpe house.

The two lodges, the Principal’s Residence and the Caretaker’s/Gardener’s Lodge as well as the entrance gateway lower down College Road are positioned to frame the approach, the lodges limiting the view of the main college building until it is viewed in closer proximity.

Panelled ashlar gate piers with bases and capitals, curved rubble stone wing walls to either side with iron railings and rubble stone end piers. Gates replaced.
Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as an integral part of the design of the College, which is a good example of early C20 educational architecture. Group value with the Former Caerleon Teacher Training College Building, the nearby Caretaker’s/Gardener’s Lodge and the Principal's residence on College Road.
