Erected to commemorate the people from the Risca district who were killed and served during World War I and II.
Exterior
War Memorial. Stone obelisk with wheeled cross on column and pedimented plinth and base with four stepped base. SW face of plinth with dedication ‘THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918. IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL AND THOSE WHO SERVED. AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. AR FACHLUD HAUL AC YN Y BORE NI A'U COFIWN HWYNT. TO THOSE FROM THIS DISTRICT WHO FOUGHT IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM AND MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE 1939-45’.
Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as a well preserved war memorial displaying fine craftsmanship. Important for its historical value as a visible reminder of the sacrifice of a community during the major wars of the C20. Group value with the nearby gates and railings.
