History
This is the base and part of the shaft of the C15 Chester High Cross which once stood in the centre of the city. It was demolished in the Civil War. This section of it was collected by the Ladies of Llangollen probably ca 1800 and has later been set onto a stepped square platform. The other remains have been re-erected near the Newgate in Chester.
Exterior
The stone cross is extensively weathered. The base is square and the stem, octagonal with spur bases (or heads?). Was at one time used as a sundial.
