Road bridge over Ogmore river approximately 1.2km NE of Merthyr Mawr church.
History
Late medieval bridge, first mentioned by Leland mid C16. On W (downstream) side was a sheep-washing pool in C19.
Exterior
High single-carriageway 4-arch bridge of coursed rubble stone, with later stone flanking walls. The arches are 2-centred and are wider in centre. V-shaped cutwaters are stepped up to a low parapet with flat copings. On the downstream side the parapet has 2 segmental-headed openings to the R used for sheep washing. On the R bank the parapets curve outwards, terminating in a square pier on downstream side. On the L bank the parapets are splayed out at the ends.
Reason for designation
Listed Grade II*, New Inn Bridge is a well-preserved late medieval bridge.
