History
One of a former pair of tall terraced houses of late C18 or early C19 date, No 21 retaining canted bay with original small-paned glazing, No 19 with late C19 bay, probably a replacement for original bay. Long and very narrow gardens to rear of Nos 19 and 21, stepped steeply up from houses.

Exterior
Terraced house, painted stucco with slate close eaved roof and brick small chimney to each end. Three storeys, one-window range with door to left of big two-storey canted centre bay. Plate glass top-floor sash window, canted bay has plate glass sashes, moulded cornices each floor and rounded angles. Modern recessed door with overlight. Rear has one-window range to left of a long narrow rendered two-storey rear wing. Back of house has remnant of slate-hanging, door at ground level, narrow 15-pane sash at first floor and 12-pane sash above.

Interior
Narrow house plan with corridor to left of narrow front room. Front room has boxed beams and two-panel fielded-panelled door of C18 type. Stairs at right angles behind front room with square balusters, thin turned newels and ramped rail. Closed string. Four flights up to second floor and then a separate flight to attic. First floor front room has 6-panel door and Victorian iron grate. Second floor has two fielded two-panel doors and one 6-panel door. Attic stairs up to board door, and two plain pine trusses to attic. Long narrow rear wing has ground floor end room built into hillside with stone walls and cambered-arched fireplace on a canted SW wall. First floor has terrace over this room giving access to the garden.

Reason for designation
Included for its special interest as one of a pair of substantial late Georgian style terraced houses.
