History
Low terraced house and shop, with C19 exterior detail concealing earlier work. Formerly premises of S.D. Pugh & Son, hairdressers, through much of C20, now joined with Nos 2 and 4 as part of Swales Music Centre. Built over barrel-vaulted cellars which are said to have housed French prisoners after the French invasion of 1797. The cellar under No 6 may be of later date than those under Nos 2 and 4, as curved rather than pointed in profile. The front is shown in old photographs with small-paned windows and two centre doors between Georgian small-paned curved shop windows.

Exterior
Terraced premises, painted stucco with slate close eaved roof. Low two storeys and attic, one-window range. Central dormer on eaves with catslide roof and C20 casement pair. Small canted later C19 oriel window with plate glass sash to front and narrow canted side sashes, thin cornice and rendered base. Ground floor has window to left with C20 plate glass fixed glazing and small shop front to centre and right with timber pilasters each side, fascia and shelf cornice. Recessed centre double part-glazed doors to left of shop window with one plate glass pane canted in to the door and another to front. Rear N faces on to Dark Street, three storeys, rendered. Wide board door with pilaster each side and cornice over, not linked to pilasters, oriel above with C20 metal glazing, and top-floor horned plate glass sash. Close eaves.

Interior
Interior not inspected. It has a segmental arched barrel-vaulted cellar, possibly post-medieval, C16.

Reason for designation
Included for its special historic interest as an terraced house of early origins, part of the important early row Nos 2-6 (even).
